Surgeries

DOUBLE-JAW SURGERY, CHIN SURGERY (GENIOPLASTY).

Dr. Grybauskas refused to provide in writing detailed data as to what exactly was done during this surgery and, most importantly, what was the extent of the changes (such as how much lower jaw was advanced, if at all, or how much upper jaw was widened, or how chin was repositioned, etc.). The only formal document addressing the actual changes performed during the surgery – surgery report provided by the hospital, does not contain sufficient data. I’m, therefore, not able to provide any information regarding this surgery until medical data is provided by dr. Grybauskas himself in writing.

It is important to clarify that in Lithuania, just like anywhere else in the world, a surgical release form is signed by the patient before the surgery. Though it specifies what surgery will be performed and outlines it in general terms, the information provided in such release form is of generic nature, that is – all patients receive same release form with same content. Such forms do contain areas where patient-specific information can be provided by the surgeon, but in my case, those areas were left blank. It is also important to point out that surgery release forms signed by me included a clause authorizing dr. Grybauskas to change the extent and plan of the surgery without my permission if, during the surgery itself, he decided it was necessary. I have reasons to believe dr. Grybauskas may have abused this clause by performing surgical manipulations and changes I would not have allowed to perform otherwise. The fact that information I’m requesting is not being provided to me, only confirms such suspicions.

It should be also made clear that any surgeon, dr. Grybauskas included, who hides medical data from their patients, should be avoided at all costs.

CHIN SURGERY (GENIOPLASTY) REVISION, LOWER JAW CONTOURING.

Dr. Grybauskas refused to provide in writing detailed data as to what exactly was done during this surgery and, most importantly, what was the extent of the changes (such as was there any bone shaved off and, if so, where exactly and how much, etc.). The only formal document addressing the actual changes performed during the surgery – surgery report provided by the hospital, does not contain sufficient data. I’m, therefore, not able to provide any information regarding this surgery until medical data is provided by dr. REDUCTION OF EXESS SOFT TISSUE BETWEEN THE UPPER TEETH & LIP.

This was outpatient surgery performed under IV sedation and took about an hour to complete. Upper lip was much more swollen compared to first surgery and it took several weeks for the swelling to subside.

  • Several mm. of soft tissue between the upper teeth and lip were removed to decrease lip protrusion.

*Information as provided in surgery report.

SLIGHT CONTOURING OF THE LOWER JAW, REDUCTION OF EXESS SOFT TISSUE BETWEEN THE UPPER TEETH & LIP, REMOVAL OF PLATES.

  • Several mm. of bone graft shaved off in chin area (right side).
  • Very slight amount of bone graft shaved off on the lower jaw (right side).
  • Titanium plate removed under the left eye and bone polished.
  • Some soft tissue removed in the upper lip area (on the left side).

*Information as provided in surgery report.

Dr. Grybauskas refused to provide information as to how much of the bone exactly was polished off during this surgery on the right side of the lower jaw and chin.

In my case, a complete revision of previous orthognathic treatment would be required if I wanted to fix jaw asymmetry and other issues. By complete, I mean: new orthodontic treatment + revision double-jaw surgery + revision chin surgery + additional corrections to fix lower jaw contour.

No surprise dr. Grybauskas was not willing to provide me with a new treatment plan when I asked him about what he would do to resolve the mess he created; he knew his originally applied treatment was wrong and incorrect and  complete revision would be required to correct current issues and he did not want to admit this. Dr. Grybauskas overdid with surgeries, placed tons of artificial bone in my face, shaved off too much bone where it should had been left, added bone grafts where they should not had been added – basically left almost no space for maneuvers to other surgeons. He failed to properly address core issues himself and created obstacles for other surgeons to do it for him as revisions are always more difficult.

It is important to understand that jaw assymetry is a seriuos problem. Lots of health-related issues may arise if this problem if left untreated. One of such issue is the deterioration of bite condition – the bite may be relatively satisfactory at this time, but it may get worse. Once that happens, many other health issues will follow. If dr. Grybauskas knew he was not going to be able to properly address jaw asymmetry in my case, it was his obligation, as a doctor, to make me aware of that before I signed up for orthognathic treatment as I was making a life-changing decision. He failed to inform me of such prospects.

The conclusion is very simple, really – if you are dealing with dr. Grybauskas – do not trust him and proceed with caution (better yet, avoid him at all costs). Otherwise, think twice before committing to orthognathic surgery, no matter where you live and who your doctor is, as consequences may be pretty sad and irreversible.

Once dr. Grybauskas told me I should be thankful to him… He astounded me with those words of his as I have no idea what on earth I should be thankful for… Damaged health? Lost hopes? Disfigured face? Ruined life? Mind you, but now I can’t even take a sip of water without spilling it all over me, something I never had to experience up until world renowned surgeon dr. Simonas Grybauskas did his “magic”… One surgeon, whom I consulted with in regards to possible revisions of whatever dr. Grybauskas did, said it very well – too much surgery. So much that there is no room for any further corrections. It is hard to argue with such a conclusion considering that my face looks like a crooked basin. That doctor pretty much issued a diagnoses – bad and likely no longer repairable.

If you have decided to proceed with orthognathic treatment, all I can do is wish you the best of luck and tons of patience. Also, if you have any questions, feel free to contact me. I am no expert in orthognathic surgery, but I’ve experienced my share of this lengthy and complicated process and believe I can provide some insight.
